Tacky Iraq Study Group Ruining My Life

Perhaps it's the multiple peppermintinis talking, but I have heard enough from this so-called Iraq Study Group. First of all, I was forced to miss half of Martha Stewart's daytime show yesterday so members of this group could drone on about how we're losing the war and it's time to surrender. It did not seem like breaking news to me; I was more interested in the holiday gift ideas Martha was cooking up on her show. I don't watch any other daytime trash, but I think we can all agree that Martha is well above the Ellen Degeneres/View/Megal Mullally fray. She is my one indulgence--and no one takes her away from me without meeting with fierce opposition. So that was the first strike against the Iraq Study Group, in my book. Why can't they interrupt a tacky show, like iVillage?

More importantly, I don't enjoy watching members of the media breathlessly reporting this story as if everyone in the country agrees with it, and President Bush is the one and only stubborn person who won't listen to the voice of reason. Am I the only person left who's proud of this country? Is there anyone else out there who wants to see America prevail against evil, or must we all just go ahead and join up with the terrorists, lest we should be defeated by them? I don't know about y'all, but I plan to dress my future children in precious little smocked dresses and Swiss batise short pants rather than the burka. (Burkas are fine for some people, but I prefer something a little more cheerful for my family).

Judging from all the three-year-olds I've seen walking around with bare midriffs and haltar tops, I suppose my taste in children's clothing is as antiquated as my unabashed patriotism. I'm getting to the point where I cannot even watch the news...it's just too negative and depressing. I'd rather read a book, knit, or cook dinner for my husband (also old-fashioned activities for a modern twentysomething). But if I ignore the news, I'll just be doing the country even more of a disservice. We have to stay in touch with these issues.
